1. Award Description

Milano Design Award 2017 offer to every exhibition part of Fuorisalone, the opportunity  to participate and win the awards Milano Design Award Winner, Best Concept, Best Technology, Best Storytelling, Best Engagement, The Unicorn, Press Choice, Lifetime Achievement for Designer and Lifetime Achievement for Company. Winners are selected by Jury, except for the Press Choice that is selected by the Press Jury and the Lifetime Achivements that are selected by the promoters.

Milano Design Award is supported by 5VIE art+design, Brera Design District, elita - enjoy living italy, Porta Venezia in Design, Zona Sant’Ambrogio Design District, Triennale di Milano, Tortona Design Week, Ventura Projects and coordinated by elita - enjoy living Italy.

Milano Design Award is open to all companies, designers and collectives from all over the world.

The award is during Fuorisalone (April 4th-9th 2017); the closing ceremony is held at Teatro dell’Arte in Triennale di Milano, on Tursday April 6th 2017, in which all the winners will be announced.

The number of participants (Candidates) to the award is 40, selected by the Scientific Committee between all the exhibitions that take place in Milan during Fuorisalone and that have a strong exhibitive characteristic. The Scientific Committee evaluates the exhibition design and not the exhibited products.

Candidates will be alerted of their participation by e-mail and will accept this Regulation. All the Candidates will be publicly announced on Wednesday April 5th 2017. Only winners will receive the prizes of Milano Design Award 2017; all winners will be sponsored on Milano Design Award channels and announced on Thursday April 6th 2017, during the award ceremony, and on the official website of Milano Design Award.

 

2. Selection Process

The selection of the exhibitions is carried out by the Scientific Committee and the two Juries, formed by three phases:

 

2.1 Candidates Selection

The Scientific Committee, established by the Organization, performs a selection among all exhibitions of Fuorisalone, choosing maximum 40. The selection is final and independent. The visit of the exhibitions is done anonymously and without prior communication.

 

2.2 Finalists Selection

The Scientific Committee performs further evaluation and selection among the 40 candidates, leading to a list of Finalists composed at most of 12 installations. The selection is final and independent.

 

2.3 Winners Selection

The jurors will visit the 12 finalists and chooses the winners of the different categories of Milano Design Award giving marks to several aspects of the projects. The decision is final and independent. The visit to the installations is done anonymously and without prior notice.

The Press Jury will visit the 12 finalists and vote, through an online form, giving a mark to each project. The decision is final and independent. The visit to the installations is done anonymously and without prior notice.

 

3. Scientific Committee and JURIES composition

 

3.1 Scientific Committee

The Scientific Committee is established by the Organization on the basis of competences and merit, regardless of their membership or ties to companies, designers, experts, journalists and industry critics.

 

3.2. Jury

The Jury is established by the Organization on the basis of competences, merit and affinity with the categories of the award, regardless of their membership or ties to companies, designers, experts, journalists and industry critics. The Jury is chaired by the Chief Judge, last year’s winner of Milano Design Award. The Jury consists of 5 members.

 

3.3 Press Jury

The Press Jury is established by the Organization on the basis of competences and is composed by the press. The Press Jury consists of 10 members maximum

 

4. Participation Process

Candidates are chosen by the Scientific Committee from all the exhibition participating in the Fuorisalone and have expected innovation and staging qualities. Unsolicited applications will not be accepted and will not affect the award and its selection process, in any way.

 

5. Use of materials

All material produced by Milano Design Award, referred to Candidates (people or things) are meant for publication. Milano Design Award has the right to use them in whole or in part, in the work of the Scientific Committee and selection of the Jury, to reproduce in whole or in part on its own communication channels and during the Award Ceremony, in communications to media relating to the Award of linked events.

 

6. Use of Milano Design Award brand

Candidates can freely use the badge “Nominee for the Milano Design Award” in all media, without changing it in any way and in compliance with the Badge Guidelines, after the approval of the Organization.

Legal Information

The Organization reserves the right to disqualify any candidate who tries to influence or compromise the award selection process or violates the requirements of this Regulation.

The Organization is not responsible for: (1) incorrect or inaccurate transcription of information about the installation; (2) technical problems of any kind, including but not limited to the operation of any telephone, computer, network, hardware or software; (3) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any website or service; (4) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the award; (5) electronic or human error which could take place in the administration of the award.

Candidates renounce any dispute, claim, and instance connected or not to Milano Design Award, its organization, or any evidence relating to the prizes awarded.

Milan Design Award is in no way responsible for any behavior, copyright infringement, plagiarism or other offenses committed by the applicants. Milan Design Award reserves the right to remove any candidate for any reason and without warning.
